Selfie in Bedroom

Τhis painting is part of a series of self-portraits I had initially made in the early 00s during my student years. Throughout the pandemic, I started pondering the fact what possibilities might hold if I revisit my earliest works. What has initially started as an experiment to refresh half-baked paintings ended up in a full fledged project where various elements of the painting mainly the eyes, nose and mouth were painted in separate canvas pieces at home, due to travel restrictions and later adhere on the surface of the larger composition. I would then repaint almost the entire surface in order to achieve a more coherent and organic end result. This has been quite fullfiling, since after submitting my phd dissertation I felt the urge to get in touch with that younger side of myself, where things were more on hands, raw and more unfiltered. I believe that through this process of revisiting the past I was successful to bridge the gap between my younger self and where I stand now.
