I have a more liberal definition of abstracts than many. Some insist that in order to be an abstract, the image's referent must be unrecognizable. I believe that eliminates some of the best abstracts in art. For me, an image is an abstract once the referent is no longer the main point of the image. Instead, it is line, form, symmetry, etc., and especially metaphor. Metaphor is the basis of language,so I look for it in my creations.
