Jos Letschert, Professional painter
Jos Letschert She is the woman without face, like a sculpture of Modigliani, or a painting of De Chrico. She is resting, after hard work, or after a sad message. We don't know. You are for the answers Roberto, but maybe you don't even have the questions. The mirror is an ongoing element in your work. Interesting conclusion, even if it is not very clear what is mirroring at the moment. The composition is rather clear, with a large negative space at the upper part. Very esthetic. Yes, what is left for us: the title, a lullaby. Maybe. I am not for the answers, not even for the questions, maybe just there for some sober analyses.

Roberto De Mitri Eliot...

Roberto De Mitri, Citizen of the World
Roberto De Mitri Jos... :) ... probably De Chirico may be unconsciously the spiritual father of this photo... a puppet? a dummy? a chrysalis maybe ... I do not think she is tired, like after a heavy work. I think she slowly went out, as slowly a candle consumes and goes out. sitting on the table, devoid of will and strength of mind. a long and remote time. and I imagine in my mind this lullaby that still plays, without there being anybody in the room listening to it. the music of an eternal carillon.
and I do not think there are any questions or answers here. we are just in front of the inexorable. a statue of lifeless salt. even if it has had a past, why do we need to do more questions? we can go back with our memory and dig into our past. for what? to find out what's obvious. that everything is extinct. this lullaby sounds sad and cynical...
and thank you very much for the beautiful comment... :)

M W, Author photographer
M W No, definitely she is not tired or sleepy ;)) I feel an existential pain emanating from this work, from her. It's not the matter of a present moment, it's the matter of her everyday awarness of her life. We don't know her life and what stands behind her suffer. We can only imagine and guess. But certainly her life is faceless. Means not too much or nothing to... her? To surroundings of her? Probably she has lost a strength, joy or even will to live her life. Or aim to live for.
A lullaby? Yes, exactly, before falling asleep she hears everyday the same lullaby in her mind like a mantra. A mantra which her mind repeats her making her life horrible.
Really amazing work, Roberto!

Marco Pastori, Amateur photographer
Marco Pastori Ciao Roberto,

Roberto De Mitri, Citizen of the World
Roberto De Mitri Maria... :) ... "definitely she is not tired or sleepy"... we know the difference between being tired and being an "object" with no force of will and light.
She is as empty as an empty canvas.
each color is faded away from her life.
she has slowly lost light. like a candle slowly consuming and extinguishing its flame.
the heat has slowly extinguished. the light of the candle is slowly eclipsed.
and, as you say well... It's not the matter of a present moment. every day, every day, every single day, this light is gone more and more. but all this torment, this malaise, this discomfort, belongs to a remote time. there is nothing more left of human, than an empty envelope. a fossil, we can cruelly say... if there was pain, this pain belongs to the past.
now, we have only a doll left abandoned to his destiny... any questions that you do, maybe they were the same questions that she has done to herself. but in the past.

the room is empty. the music sounds but sounds in an empty space. devoid of feelings and desires. the mirror does not reflect any face. here ideally reflects the very concept of void... :)

Roberto De Mitri, Citizen of the World
Roberto De Mitri Marco … :) …

Roberto De Mitri Ms. Monika... :) ... "Such a poetic Eliot's poem for your poetic art"... Eliot has enriched with her words this photo, giving content and thickness to the image, yes is true...

and I take this opportunity to quote not just another poem, but also another Eliot... :)

"The Hollow Men" of Thomas Stearns Eliot:

We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar

Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;...

Roberto De Mitri unfortunately I do not know Steinbeck and I do not know his novels. but I trust what you say, Dana... :) ... probably, but without my direct will, perhaps at the unconscious level, I was somewhat inspired by De Chirico's surrealism. metaphysical painter able to infuse his paintings with a strong sense of alienation.
