Chef d'oeuvre de l'art Byzantin, cette représentation de la Vierge est en Mosaïques en or de 1cm env. recouvrant tout le plafond, badigeonnés lorsque la basilique devint mosquée en 1453 mais restaurée sous Ataturk en 1935 et déclarée musée. 50 m de hauteur, 30 m de diamètre avec 40 nervures et 40 fenêtres... la plus haute coupole du monde. La basilique fut érigée en 532, brûlée par deux fois et reconstruite en 6 ans sous l'Empereur Justinien par trois architectes grècque d'Anatolie en marbres de diverses couleurs et régions, de style d'inspiration des Panthéons romains et des principes orientaux. La basilique de San Marco à Venise utilise les même techniques pour ses mosaïques et son architecture est inspirée par St. Sophie.

This is a chef d'oeuvre of Byzantine art made of golden mosaïques of about 1cm. , covering the whole of this largest in the world cupola measuring 50m high and 30 in diameter with 40 windows and 40 compartments. It was all covered up during the Ottoman period in 1453 when the Basilique was transformed into a mosque. Under Ataturk,1935 the founder of modern Turkey, it was declared a museum and is still in restauration. The Basilik was built in 532, burned down twice and rebuilt by Emperor Justien in 6 years by 3 greek architects of Anatolia in three different colored marble in a style influenced by the Roman pantheon and oriental architetural principles. The Basilica of San Marco in Venice uses the same technique for its mosaïques and its architecture is similar.

Marianne Charlotte Mylonas-svikovsky La lumière n'est pas très bonne mais authentique, assez sombre et mystérieux. Dommage qu'on ne peut pas se rendre compte du travail énorme de mosaîque de env. 1cm pièce seulement ... inspiré des sols des villas romaines ... tout s'influence mutuellement!
