Jos Letschert Henk, thanks a lot for your appreciation and compliment. It is a very time-consuming way to create sculpture in this way, but also very satisfying. The hot glue creates very interesting texture on the cardboard (and unfortunately often blisters on my fingers too).

Jos Letschert Claude, thank you so much for your encouraging comment. The three-dimensional character of this technique allows different possibilities for expression, new challenges, new difficulties too, of course.

Jos Letschert avatar
Jos Letschert Torsten, thanks for your very constructive comment. Yes, indeed, I have tried to find a new dimension. The challenge was to find a way to continue the collage-form and the tear up that I used in my drawings. In the cardboard-glue-solution I can saw and combine elements as oft as I wish, and I have done so. Some of the 'heads' do have some painful operations behind them.

Jos Letschert Robin, thanks for that close observation. You are right, it is building up from a very beginning. I appreciate it that you mention the contribution of Beate. It is a difficult motive to get well photographed. I am very happy with the way she did it.

Jos Letschert avatar
Jos Letschert Roberto, thanks a lot for your comment. Yes, I agree, he could be a wonderful storyteller. Homer has done it for us already in a most fantastic way. Nevertheless, the challenge for me is to interpret the persons behind the stories, evoking imagination. I am glad you like it. Thanks for the nice comment and compliment!

Jos Letschert avatar
Jos Letschert Thierry, I am very pleased that you, just like Henri did, mention the coherence between painting and sculpture. It was my main challenge to find a way to translate the drawings and paintings into a three-dimensional form, without loosing the possibilities that I had found before. I am very pleased that you, like Robin did, mention the contribution of Beate. It is not easy to force back these 'guys' on an acceptable way in a two-dimensional shape.

Jos Letschert Stefan, indeed, the topic and the players in the stories do have very emotional backgrounds. The most difficult part for me is the transition or translation of emotion in sculpture. I am very pleased that you noticed and mention that.

Jos Letschert Yes Radek, it is a sculpture, approximately 30x30x30, built up from corrugated cardboard and a lot of glue. Finally painted with acryl. It is the beginning of a new series. I publish some others. Takes some time while the process of sculpting is rather intensive and time consuming.

26 August 2017 at 06:27pm
Jos Letschert avatar
Jos Letschert If you consider what has happened during his Odyssee of twenty years, there should be something to see in its face. The technique of sculpting with corrugated cardboard and a lot of glue-sticks also left traces of course. To be honest, I do have any other sculpture even 'worser' as this one! To be honest: I like these textures very much.

Jos Letschert Nicole, it is after all a personal interpretation of course, and for me also a quest for expression. One of my next contributions to AL will be a 3D self-portrait, that would not look better as U, I fear. Thanks for your reaction. Very much appreciated.

Jos Letschert Lorenzo, thanks a lot. I will give it a try. It would sincerely give an interesting look inside the magic world of mythology, a lot of connections between civilizations. Nevertheless the study meets also a lot of criticism, based on the rather rough way of research. Thanks for thinking about this issue and your engagement!
