Quest for Europe
Cheerful Europe of Phoenicia,
abducted by a disguised god
of higher rank, your playfulness
torned your family apart.
Oh Europe, the quest for you:
a mission impossible.

Message from other artists
Edna Dott I 'envy' your charisma, dear Jos.. So obviously haunted, her face reflects her tortured soul. A powerless Demeter of sorts, a Mother that has lost a child, sentenced to a ruthless ever-suffering. Amazing work once more.

Jos Letschert Edna, thank you s o much for your observation, your understanding of the painting, your differentiated feedback, and your compliment!

Roland Hoffmann Successful implementation. Torn and twisted as she always was. I'm sure it will work out alright! If we play together as a team. Artists quest is not only to show the disease but show the way out and believe in it. If not we who else?
Kind regards
Roland

Jos Letschert Thanks a lot Roland. I appreciate your interesting observation and your comment. Very much appreciated. Yes, it is always dualism.

Jos Letschert Marcel, Romain, Alexandru and Doris, thanks a lot for your comments. I do appreciate them very much. It encourages. Romain, the impression is simplicity, thanks, so should it be, the reality however is that I needed to use an enormous amount of lines. If you would or could enlarge the image, it would give you an idea.

Yes I have tried to express that feeling of a mother in the moment that she realizes that her daughter has been abandoned by a higher god. Her quest for Europe will at the end not lead to any succes. Europe: mission impossible.

Toni Traglia Well done Jos, it is my preferred one of your last woks. Here great control of colours, composition and expressivity!

Henk Aalberts tortured soul, tortured face, 'Zerrissenheit'... charging reactions on your work, Jos, which is quite a (justified!) compliment on your painting/collage... it made me think of Adorno's words on the existence of art: "hardly anywhere else does suffering still find its own voice"...the simple fact that I had that thought, underlines the strong effect of your intense work...bravo!

Jos Letschert Wolfgang, danke für deine Reaktion und das Kompliment. Sehr geschätzt!

Jos Letschert Henk, yes, I am very pleased about the understanding of this image. Thank you for mentioning it. Adorno, yes, I agree too, wise words, and I can underline them. I appreciate your detailled reaction on this portrait. This one hasn't been one of the most easy. It took some time.

Regina Susanne Borchert ...ein strom von mitleid geht für mich von dieser "mutter" u.a. aus - berührend
1 May 2017 at 09:05pm

Jos Letschert Michael, Bea and Michaela, thanks a lot for your observation and comment. Very much appreciated!

Jos Letschert Philomena, Isabelle, Joseph, Paul, Frédéric, Jef and Claude, I am very grateful and enriched by your comments and compliments. It is always a question if what I want to express touches the observers too, and I am very pleased when I see that there is obviously a kind of bridge between the image and the responses. You know it all, all kinds of art are sensitive and vulnerable expressions in an uncertain environment of responses. A kind of exposing your soul.

Jos Letschert Vague Reverie, thanks for your observation. Yes indeed, you are right, it has a twofold meaning: a very intrinsic emotional pain and the expression of despair and hopelessness.
22 January 2018 at 11:55am
Toni Traglia splendid impression of perplexity and mislaying, subtle division of his personality, well done Jos, a great expressive and evocative work
