Roberto De Mitri Claudio... :) ... :)

1 April 2018 at 11:14pm
Marco Pastori avatar

What care the Dead for Summer?
The Solstice had no Sun
Could melt the Snow before their Gate -
And knew One Bird a Tune -

M W Well Roberto, let me come back to already, I guess, only "mine" version from the former works of her series ;) On her way into unknown, we can see a moment of her hesitation, as if she were in doubt seeing a hill behind her. She turned with her back to it as if she were not sure to take a challenge in overcome the hill, let's say a barrier, obstacle on the way. Some people gain mountains, some are afraid of even walking on the hill.

Roberto De Mitri avatar
Roberto De Mitri well Maria... :) ... your photo reading is so accurate that it works as an ideal commentary on the scene. and to them honest, it is very similar to mine... :)
as often happens, the photo does not describe anything definitive and determined. or irreversible. we are always on a threshold. we are always in a condition of the soul in which we face more choices and possibilities. always in the balance between past and future, between desire and the contingencies of reality. between transcendental and real. between light and shadow.
there are so many things that scare us in life. and often these fears are only in our mind. but are just these fears that keep us bound and confined within this eternal limbo.
this, at least, is what I think... :) ... and thank you very much for the beautiful comment!

Jos Letschert avatar
Jos Letschert Roberto, I appreciated this photo at most because of the compositorial quality of it: that strong vertical black of the woman against the fragile horizontal lines and the lace of white. Closing my eyes a bit there is a very graphic plate with strong contrasts, a composition that even works if you turn around the photo.

Roberto De Mitri Ms. Nicole... :) ... she can be an ideal symbolic eclipse. a cosmic singularity. a black hole that catches the light inside. captures our attention within her and forever imprisons the feelings of a long-lost memory... thus the body appears the branch of a dark galaxy... :) ... and thank you very much for the kind comment!

Roberto De Mitri avatar
Roberto De Mitri Jos... :) ... yes, these two opposing elements are present. the landscape is distributed horizontally, while the figure of a woman rises vertically. this creates a certain sense of tension. a vertical tension that perhaps expresses a certain sense of spiritual elevation. to which the horizontal plane is opposed, which perhaps describes the plan of the contingency of the real. I don't know... :) ... the important is that you like! thank you very much!

3 April 2018 at 11:37pm
Roberto De Mitri avatar
Roberto De Mitri Vague Reverie ... :) ... yes, she can be the personification of the hard side of reality. even if, in my mind, she is more like the mysterious side of the unconscious. therefore something that is opposed to the plane of reality. the personification of why certain inevitable small deaths occur. as a warning. or the incarnation of our destiny. the experiences belong to the real. but the reason why certain things happen belong to the mystery.
you say: "but we have the strength we can only be reborn if we've known what it feels like to die inside us"... :) ... that's why I say that she is like a warning. a mirror in which reason is not reflected, but returns to us an irrational emotion or feeling.
the seasons are all within us. at times, however, we more easily express a certain type of sensation, a certain determination. while we have difficulty expressing the forms of other seasons, or rather we have more difficulty expressing happier feelings. of course I speak for myself.
and thank you very much for the beautiful comment! :)

Dana Winkelman avatar
Dana Winkelman Roberto. As usual for me, late to the party... I think this is among your best images and that is quite an accomplishment. It is a stunningly beautiful photograph. Tonally rich and compositionally excellent. The feel is organic and unforced. The horizon flows thru the photo like a luxurious stretch after an afternoon nap. The vinyard (?) provides texture and depth. Even the ground at her feet provides a rich loamy organic feel. Her gaze seems contemplative, as if she is considering what should happen next but not really worried about it. Maybe the solstice had no sun but it also had no anxiety. I am a bit in awe over this shot. Really wonderful. All the best. Dana...

Roberto De Mitri avatar
Roberto De Mitri Dana... :) ... as often happens, this picture is also very free to the interpretation and we are free to see in it what we are looking for and we are free to interpret it following our feelings. it speaks of a story, but we are the ones who make this story... it looks good as a tarot card. open to reading and interpretation. anxiety or serenity. tension or harmony. everything is in our eyes.
what I really like, as you have well described, is the thin layer of snow that partially covers the scenario. revealing elements of the landscape as if they were mirages. creating an evocative effect. although each element helps to create a very harmonious composition, everything appears very natural.
everything appears natural, yet its transcendental side emerges spontaneously... :) ... and thank you very much for the beautiful comment!

Roberto De Mitri Toni...

about the exposure time. I can not remember with certainty neither the exposure time nor the aperture of the lens. having no light meter, I can only say with certainty that I used a 100iso film and Nd x400 filter. so I think the exposure time was between 20 seconds and 30 seconds... :)
