Image description

"the end of the road will arrive in its own time, the road of entry and escape, reading the tarmac lassitude This highway will arrive in its own time, immutable an instrument of entry and escape: invisibility a means to an end, a symbol of progress, weariness And a winding foreground for drama, backbone Your road I enter upon and look around, I believe you are not all that is here I believe that much unseen is also here, akin to languor Journeyers over consecutive seasons, over the years, the curious years each emerging from that which preceded it Yet knowing how way leads on to way I doubted if I should ever come back. Roberto De Mitri you want me as a biographer? I cost a lot of money. you have to pay me at least a sandwich with salami and a beer a day. :)

Now I'm kidding… anyway, well… a person should be blind or insensitive not to participate of the emotional content of your photos.
the “role” (I apologize for the simplicity of the word) of the photographer can be multiple. or better ... the intentions of “the one who makes the photograph” may be different. but, whatever it is the aim, photography responds to the inherent desire (more or less unconscious or remote) to give voice to a personal need. which is the deep request of the photographer to give voice to the unspoken thoughts of his (her) mind and heart. not through words, but simply through the medium of photography.

The poet, as the photographer, does not describe reality, this is not his role. He (she) must capture and transmit the most vague and indefinite impressions, suggest emotions and moods. He (She) must penetrate the inner essence of things.
if it is true that, in Symbolism, an essential characteristic is that under the apparent reality, the reality perceived by the senses, there is another more profound and mysterious “dimension”, which can emerge only through poetic intuition, then the road… the landscape immersed in the fog… the death bird lying on the palm of the hand… the shadowy figure of a person behind wet glass from the rain, all these elements are loaded with a metaphorical and symbolic meaning. a transfiguration of reality, a sublimation of the thought.

all this happens in a very natural way, without excessive reasoning. And so must be.
if you have to say one thing, you express it in words… if you have to express a thought or an emotion through an image, you express it in natural way, because this message is already in you. you do not need to search in another place.

if a person is empty, he (she) has nothing to say, his (her) photos can be technically beautiful, but soulless. devoid of emotion. and, I think I am not saying anything particularly new or inno

Jenny Papalexandris @Srikaton, thank you for your appreciation, i see both components in my work are important, word and image, one creation different ways of 'speaking' The narrative is central to my work, not just what is visible but what is implied in the absence. Thank you again. ))

Jenny Papalexandris Mr De Mitri ;-) from now on you are writing my art statements :-) you have the fine ability to capture the eesence of my work. The road a metaphor for change, for escaping something or leading us somewhere is indeed what this image depicts. The straight road ahead with no obvious end and no meandering side roads is for me an even more potent symbol both in a negative and positive way. It is hopeful because it emphasises lineal direction, no distraction, a focused road of arrival. Yet at the same time, it can also be read as an anxious departure, a fleeing from some sorrow, and urgency to escape whatever chaos was left behind. It is as you say 'still shrouded in fog'_ perilous and unknown. Both narratives are at play in this image. It is as you say 'still shrouded in fog' Thank you always for your stimulating discussion of our work, images are so powerful in our lives. May you travel well.

Roberto De Mitri The road has an undoubted symbolic value. And it can have different meanings.
Naturally it makes me think that, in general, it is a moment of change in our lives. Or passage.
And if I see your photo, I think that the road runs straight toward its vanishing point.
There are no twists and turns along the way. There are no doubts or second thoughts, in our decision to take the path…
But the road, this moment of change in our lives, is still shrouded in fog.
A cold and mute silence accompanies us.
A sense of melancholy and loneliness raining from the sky.
An unknown and uncertain future is beyond the horizon ...
The fog, as a sounding board, amplifying our anguish and sorrow …
we should never go back. But we are a small boat at the mercy of the uncontrollable flows of fate.
Long is the road. And we are on the road again…
