I thought of titling this ‘Saturn Devouring his Children’ after Goya because the muscular color and robust dynamics hinted at larger themes and a kind of abstract grandiosity. But even borrowing a title from a genius is a comparison of sorts and that is unthinkable with Goya who is my favorite painter, so I settled on the mundane Anatomy Lesson for obvious reasons – to me at least. The subject is indeed mundane - wax scrapings from the encaustic finishes I’ve been applying to images seen previously on AL. But there is glory in this garbage so to speak, and sparks rising from the mud, along with some personal humor – I’ve been feeding composited photo elements into large form abstractions – turning photos into paintings – and now the opposite – the material of art is turned into a photograph. The river flows in both directions. A camera captures visual truth with unforgettable distinction and immediacy. A peerless instrument, I carry one on my belt during the day; you never know what can turn up. Even in the garbage.

Torsten Richter good title.
my whole life I´m fascinated in structures that can be seen and will be seen in supposed chaos.
Sometimes you have to change the perspective, the angle, the light, the mood...but there will definitely be something to be found.
I´m using that fact in some of my paintings.
