influenced by the miniature paintings of courtly life from the Mughal Empire in India in the 16th century. The image draws on allusions to Tiger hunts conducted by Mughul nobles perched on elephants with foot men beating the high grasses and forest scrub to flush the tiger from cover. Glimpses of fields and rivers appear, court buildings, cages, forests and skies and always the elusive spotted coat of the tiger woven through the composition, just one step ahead of capture. The finished work is 38" X 54".
