Denis Olivier Could you explain us what these monuments are for?Jul 9, 2008 at 04:42pm Takashi Mori Thank you for your message.
This is japanese traditional symbol of gate for god.(so called "torii" in Japanese..)
Generally, it is built in front of main shrine (temple) on the ground.
In my living prefecture,
there is biggest lake in Japan named "Biwa-ko"(lake Biwa)
This is "torii" for water's god.
It is rare case to be built on the surface of lake or sea.Jul 9, 2008 at 05:08pm Matthieu G. Excellent. Thanks for the explaination. M. Kenna made a great picture of a Torii, as well.Jul 9, 2008 at 05:57pm Hagiwara Getabo Oh! It is an excellent torii!
