The light on this day was poor. As I stood and looked across the water at the old Mill, in my minds eye I knew that I wanted to make a Black and White Photograph. I also to some degree pe-visualised how I wanted this final image to look.

I decided to make this a long exposure by adding a 10 Stop ND filter hoping to create some movement in what little clouds there were and also to smooth out the flowing water.

The final image was brought into Lightroom where I made some White Balance corrections, and tweaked the exposure. I then exported it out to Photoshop and created the Black and White conversion by using multiple channel mixers on each of the RGB channels.

After the conversion and a few more tweaks, I applied my Toning curve which I made to add a subtle about of warmth to the image.. Nikon D3. Long Exposure. In Construction, Edifice, Building. Salt Mills - Saltaire Bradford, photography by Ian Barber. Image #354206
