Henri Manguy This head is so expressive !
What are your sculptures made of ?
16 April 2019 at 02:56pm
Jos Letschert avatar
Jos Letschert Henri, thanks a lot. I make them from corrugated cardboard, hot glue, sometimes a kind of wooden frame, and acrylic paint. The kilos of glue (with such a glue-pistol) provide a very solid mass and make the sculptures rather heavy. The cardboard delivers structure and texture, accentuated by paint. It is a rather time consuming activity because every sculpture is build up bij so many layers of board before it gets any mass. During the process I saw and cut the sculpture many times and bring it together again in different angles.

Tatiana Ferkova Although, sculptures are not my "area of interest", this title has caught my attention ( as I am a lover of Greek mythology :-) ) and especially his face expression... really desires to see/hear/meet his wife Laodamia...very emotional and touching for me

Gilbert Claes avatar
Chapeau beste vriend...

Jos Letschert avatar
Jos Letschert Tatiana, thanks a lot for your differentiated feedback. Antiklos is a tragic person, as you know. After ten years of war he ended tragically in the horse because of that supposed and well remembered sound of the voice of his wife. Thank you for this response.

17 April 2019 at 11:05am
Jos Letschert avatar
Jos Letschert Didier, thanks for your comment. Yes, tragedy. Antiklos was so homesick that when he thought he heard the voice of his wife, he wanted to answer. Odysseus, also in the horse and sitting next to him, put his hand on his mouth, but in such a strong way that Antiklos didn't survive that action.

Jos Letschert avatar
Jos Letschert David, that is a big compliment you are making. Thank you very much. The power of African masks, and also masks in Asian cultures or in native America do have influence on my way of thinking, seeing and creating. The essential driving force is to imagine how such a face could have looked, thought, felt, suffered. The Ancient Greek stories are full of emotion and I am fascinated by the explicit visual expression in the narration. If it has this effect on your observation you can surely believe that you have made my day my friend!
